For years we have been recommended as a mortgage Broker for Expats – read on for our latest case study on that very scenario.

The Story

This client worked for the United Nations and was posted in Afghanistan as a political advisor. They had found their dream family home in London and had an offer accepted at £950,000. Even with a 20% deposit they were struggling to get a mortgage. They contacted the expert mortgage team at Fox Davidson for help.

The Challenge

To their frustration, our client was unable to get a mortgage with their bank as they were working in Afghanistan, despite their family living in London. We needed to find a lender that was understanding of their salary being paid in US dollars as the United Nations is based in New York.

The result

We liaised with several high street banks who were not concerned about where the client was based as the employer was based in America. We spoke direct to an underwriter at the bank and they confirmed that they would accept 100% of the client’s income for affordability purposes. As a result, the client was able to secure a 5-year fixed rate at 2.00%, with a 20% deposit, while working in Afghanistan and earning in US Dollars. This wouldn’t have been possible unless the client worked with a specialist UK expat mortgage broker.
