Our top 5 areas to live in Bristol

Looking to move to Bristol but unsure of where you should be buying? It’s fair to say that Bristol is a large and bustling city, but individual areas have their own distinctive character and qualities, much like the local residents. To help streamline the process of finding your ideal neighbourhood, here is a list of our top 5 locations to live in Bristol.

1.     Clifton

Overlooked by the beauty of the suspension bridge, and on the banks of the River Avon, Clifton is a truly prestigious post-code in the Bristol area. If you’re looking for cosy cafés and boutique shops, Clifton village is exactly where you need to be. Spend your weekends wandering past the stunning Georgian terraces and garden squares as you get to know the city and your new neighbourhood. This area also benefits from the prestigious Clifton College boarding school, making it perfect for families looking to settle down. Average house prices have recently been valued at around £530,000 according to Zoopla, which may seem pricey. According to recent sales, a 2-bed house in the Clifton area sold for around £250,000, while renting often costs up to £1,400 a month.

2.     Leigh Woods

Across the bridge and reaching across a slightly smaller area, Leigh Woods sits amongst beautiful woodlands, while still being a stone’s throw from the city itself. This small, close-knit community is set in the grounds of the stunning Ashton Park, and they even have their own society page that you can take a look at. Again, average home prices tend to be a little more expensive in this area, with current estimates suggesting around £710,000, but the location is truly stunning, and the community feel is second to none.

3.     Redland

If you’re looking for something closer to the city centre, without too much of the hustle and bustle, Redland may be a perfect choice. This area can boast some of the best schools in Bristol, with a host of wonderful shops to fill your weekends, and a stunning range of restaurants that include the Michelin-starred, Wilks. As of May 2017, the average price paid for pro was just under £480,000, with the most sales being flats in the area. It does make it a little more affordable than the more up-market Clifton and Leigh Woods areas, without compromising on the quality of homes and local amenities.

4.     Totterdown

A short stroll from Temple Meads station, and just across from Victoria Park, Totterdown is a lovely and slightly more affordable location, that was originally built around Bristol’s buzzing railway industry. It’s also the home of the England’s steepest street, Vale Street. The location could be described as urban and artsy and has recently undergone some development. While some might consider the hilly streets to be a bother, they also result in some stunning views. Zoopla recently found that the current average value of houses in Totterdown came in just below the £230,000 mark, making it the perfect place for first-time buyers.

5.     The City Centre

If you’re looking for the excitement of city centre living, then the best location you can choose to live in, is the city centre. The centre of Bristol is more affordable than you might think and puts you right at the heart of all that Bristol has to offer. Spend your evenings strolling along the harbour-side, your weekends browsing through the brands at Cabot Circus, or hop on a train at Temple Meads to explore further afield. Average property prices start at around £190,000 for a 1 bedroom flat, so you’re sure to find something to suit your budget and home requirements.
